Welcome to brewing at the Noble Pig! Our onsite brewing facility offers not only unique beers but our brewing space itself is specially designed to accommodate our limited space.
In our upstairs production space, viewed through the glass windows in the pub, we have two specially designed brewing tanks, called a Mash Tun and a Lauter Tun, to maximize the space that we have available. Part of the unique design lies with the Mash Tun also acting as a Kettle and Whirlpool – something exceptionally rare among breweries. In this room the malted barley is ground and added to high quality Kamloops water. Later hops and other specialty ingredients, such as fruit and spices, are added and finally the spent grain is separated from the mixture and donated to local farmers.
The final two steps in the brewing process – fermentation and conditioning – occur in the downstairs brewing area. Here we have approximately 1500 ft2 of conditioning tank space – a beer lover’s dream! – where beer will rest and condition for anywhere from two weeks to almost six months for some of our specialty brews before being served upstairs at our taps.
The Noble Pig’s brewing program is managed by Nick Murphy who joined the team in 2018. Nick first found his taste and passion for craft beer working at The Longwood Brewpub in his hometown of Nanaimo, BC. Although he was primarily working as a prep-cook at The Longwood, he was introduced to the world of crafting beer by working alongside the brewers on a daily basis. He still remembers asking the brewmaster one day, “What does it take to become a brewer?”. The answer given is one that most brewers can relate to: “Get really good at cleaning anything that is stainless”.
Several years after leaving The Longwood and beginning to dabble in home brewing, Nick met Matt Beere while working at Mountain Equipment Co-Op (MEC) in North Vancouver. Matt and Nick quickly became friends over their shared interest in craft beer and Matt was happy to share his expertise with Nick. After a few years of home brewing alongside Matt and their friend Kevin, Matt and his father Craig welcomed the guys to join and help start up Beere Brewing Company. This began their adventure of #BuildingABrewery in North Vancouver. Brewing at Beere with Matt and Kevin allowed them all to gain experience brewing at a commercial scale and be inspired by each others creativity. Nick will be forever grateful to the Beere family to have had the opportunity to start his brewing career with them. However, life and love led Nick to relocate to Kamloops to allow his fiancée, now wife, to pursue an exciting career opportunity in her field.
Nick was keen to stay working within the craft beer industry and luckily, he was welcomed to become part of the family at The Noble Pig! Nick’s meticulous nature, creativity and passion for craft beer will allow him to create unique, high quality and interesting beer in-line with the reputation of The Noble Pig. Nick is excited to be in Kamloops and start building his life and career in the community. Rotating taps are limited release styles and there can be as little one thousand liters of a brew released. For our upcoming rotating taps you can check our Facebook or Instagram pages.
We have produced over 100 different styles of beers since opening and consistently feature four Noble Brews year round and we always have a series of exciting rotating beers on tap.
If you are looking to try something that is even more one-of-a-kind we also hold Cask Nights where we feature a forty liter cask containing unique and inspired ingredients to complement a style of beer. These casks are typically high demand and sell out in a matter of hours – details of what night and time the cask will be released are shared on our social media pages.
Please feel free to ask your server if tours are available when you dine with us. If we are not actively brewing that day we love to show guests our brewery space. In the event that we are brewing and not able to take guests through on a full tour we have an abbreviated brew tour mural painted on our back wall which is a perfect photo opportunity to keep a memento from your experience at The Noble Pig Brewhouse!
Cheers to beers at the Noble Pig Brewhouse.
